Welcome to the Nurse's Office

Who is the nurse?

My name is Alice Day. I am a registered nurse with prior nursing experience in oncology, neonatal intensive care, obstetrics, pediatrics, family practice and college health. I also have a master's degree from the University of Vermont in Community/Public Health Nursing. I feel so lucky that every day I am given the opportunity to help improve the health of all the students here at Twinfield.

What does the nurse do?

I help support student learning by acting as an advocate and liaison between home, school and the larger health care community regarding health concerns that may affect a student's ability to learn. I provide nursing care to the entire student population from preschool through 12th grade. This includes direct care related to accidents and changing physical health conditions, and vision and hearing screenings. I also help to monitor and counsel students to support their emotional, mental and social health. Referrals are made as necessary to healthcare providers and community agencies.

By working with parents, students, faculty and staff, and community healthcare providers, plans are developed to accommodate each student's specific health needs at school. Student and family interactions are opportunities to provide appropriate health information and support to promote health, and help informed healthcare decisions, prevent disease, and enhance each student's school performance.

How can I, (as a parent/guardian), help?

Please encourage your child to get plenty of sleep, eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible, and drink lots of water! If only it were that simple! But sometimes it is the simple things that can make the biggest difference. By working together we can help advance the well-being, academic success, and lifelong achievement and health of your child.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call Ext. 212 or stop by the Nurse's Office.

Sincerely,

Alice Day RN, MSN, School Nurse
