Notes from Nurse Alice...

Covid-19 Vaccinations/Do Not Delay/Clinic at Twinfield Tues 12/21/21

Go Twinfield!!

Thank you to all the parents of Twinfield students ages 5 to 11 who are sending me copies of their Covid-19 vaccination cards. It is inspiring to see how quickly so many students have been able to get fully vaccinated within the last month.

Remember that it takes up to 14 days after receiving a vaccine for it to be fully effective. For protection over the holidays, the sooner a vaccination is given the better.

16 and 17 year olds can now receive the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 booster vaccine. They are eligible for this if it has been 6 months since they received their 2nd Covid-19 vaccine.

Berlin Mall Clinic:

There is a clinic running at the Berlin Mall offering both initial, second and booster vaccines

You do not need an appointment for this clinic.

They are open from 8am until 6pm.

Twinfield Clinic:

If you don’t make it to the mall this weekend, the second Twinfield vaccine clinic is on Tuesday 12/21. Officially this clinic is only offering vaccine for 5 to 11 year olds with appointments but they will also accept walk ins, and will likely also have some adult vaccines as well.  Both first and second vaccines and boosters can be given at Twinfield.

For a complete list of Covid-19 vaccination clinics go here:

No Quarantine Required for Fully Vaccinated Students After Contact with a Positive Case!

Please know that we are diligently working to keep Twinfield as safe as possible. A big part of our safety protocols involve quarantining.

We have had several instances at Twinfield with students being identified as close contacts of someone who has tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately most of our students ages 12 and up who have been identified as a close contact have not had to quarantine because they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

Without Symptoms:

If a student without symptoms is identified as a close contact and is NOT fully vaccinated the Vermont Department of Health mandates that they quarantine at home. It is then required that the student have a PCR Covid-19 test on Day 7 after their last contact. A negative result will release them from quarantine although it typically takes a few days for results. This means that an unvaccinated student could be quarantining for 9 or more days. During this time they CANNOT attend in-person school and sports practices.

If a student without symptoms is identified as a close contact and IS fully vaccinated for Covid-19, no quarantine is required and it is recommended that the student have a PCR Covid-19 test between Day 3 and Day 5 after their last contact. During this time they CAN attend in-person school and sports practices.

With Symptoms:

All students with symptoms must quarantine and be tested whether they are vaccinated or not.

Hope on the Horizon:

Hopefully before the winter holidays most of our Twinfield 6 to 12 year olds will be able to get vaccinated as well.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions.

We are running VERY low on small cloth face masks for elementary students.

Please make sure your child is wearing a facemask before boarding the bus and please provide your student with at least 2 facemasks per day to use at school.

If you have any spare outgrown or extra masks at home, please consider donating them to our school. They can be dropped off in the Main Office.

Many thanks!

Nurse Alice
